Ruben Consa AIFD, TAIT, CFD
Mr. Ruben Consa is an international floral designer who has been involved in the floral industry for over 30 years as a designer, flower shop owner, educator, commentator, consultant and promoter of floral products.
Until 1998 he was the owner of two of the most respected flower shops in Manhattan, New York, Environmental Designs.
Currently he serves as Administrator and Director of the School of Floral Design Yola Guz in Miami, Florida
Mr. Ruben Consa’s education began in New York City and was supplemented by other studies in the Netherlands, Italy and England.
Also in New York Ruben began his career. There his clients included actors from Broadway and Hollywood stars, professional athletes and major Italian fashion houses. Ruben is a spontaneous and energetic designer who incorporates his own metal and wood sculptures in his floral designs. He has made special events at the Museum of Modern Art, the American Craft Museum, the Brooklyn Museum and the Gracie Mansion New York City. More recently in Florida at the Design Center of the Americas (DCOTA), different art galleries in Coral Gables and events in places like the Biltmore Hotel. It also works decorate private residences in West Palms Beach and Broward and Dade.
Mr. Consa has hosted Flower Shows in the United States, Europe, Asia, South America and the Caribbean. During his participation in these shows he has been sponsored by companies such as The John Henry Co., Floralife, Smither Oasis, Design Master, Acent Décor, Knud Nielsen, Syndicate Sales, Council flowers Australia, Council Flores of Colombia, Council California flowers, Red Book, Interflora and AFS. During the promotion of these enterprises, he has made ties with manufacturers, importers and exporters, producers, wholesalers, retailers and educators around the world.
In 1972, Ruben received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Puerto Rico of credits in Business Administration.
Since 1989, Ruben has been an active member of the American Institute of Designers of Flowers (AIFD), an organization of about 2,000 members worldwide dedicated to the highest standards of professionalism through education of floral design.
Membership is selective and is offered only to those floral designers who have shown great technical skills and artistic ability. When AIFD appears after the name of a floral designer it means that the designer is committed to professional excellence in floral design.
In July 1998, Ruben presented “Culture America” at the National Symposium AIFD against 1,500 members in Boston, Massachusetts. In 1995 he recognized the need for floral products and the need for floral education in Latin America and the US, so Ruben launched Floral Latin Exports to serve the countries of Central and South America, Mexico and the Caribbean. He is also involved in consulting as a floral consultant for companies in terms of helping to improve their image, their service to their customers, their financial gains and more.
Over the past 23 years, Mr. Consa has participated as a representative of manufacturers and distributors of products for flowers in the Latin American territory. Their efforts have been instrumental in the marketing of floral products in the region.
In 1997, Ruben worked on the development of a textbook for the University of Ede, in losPaíses Netherlands (Holland) The book development the subject of the relationship and the influences of various cultures in floral design. Also during this year he began working as an editor for floral Magazine, the official publication Professional Florist of former American Floral Services (AFS).
In 1999, Ruben moved to South Florida to continue developing products exports to Latin America Floral
Another of his professional attributes is the continuing education of floral design throughout Latin America including the prestigious decoration Weddings and international events.
In 2004, Mr. Consa participated as a floral designer at the prestigious Rose Parade in Pasadena, California. There he collaborated on the decoration of 12 floats of which 9 received awards.
In 2006 and 2007 Ruben travels to Hong Kong and China where he is very beneficial for customers trade ties. He also developed relationships with several key manufacturers in China where he collaborated on projects of product development and manufacturing. In the latter part of 2010, with his wife Yola Guz they established the School of Floral Design Yola Guz in Miami, Florida. The Yola Guz School is now the leading educational institution in South Florida where students are educated to become professionals in floral design and operation and creation of floral enterprises.
Together in 2012 Mr. & Mrs. Consa Art Deco style presented in Miami at the National Symposium AIFD. In the Show Ruben showed his artistic talent with topiaries. Recently in 2014 as a result of his dedication and his extraordinary talent he was invited to present his topiaries and Modern Organic concept in a floral show in Tokyo, Japan
